CTN TORAH MINUTE

Posted by rabbi.deutsch on 07 May 2012 / 0 Comment

Hi,

We left off in the middle of Jacob’s prophetic vision.

What’s next?

G-d promises Jacob’s that his descendants, the Jewish People, will inherit the Land of Israel.

“… I am the Lord, G-d of Abraham your father and G-d of Isaac.

The ground upon which you are lying, I will give to your descendants.”  (Genesis, 28:13)

It’s close to four thousand years later.

The fact that we still exist is amazing enough.

But on top of that, we’re still in the Land of Israel!

… Here’s a fascinating observation by Rabbi Berel Wein

As President of the World Zionist Organization, Theodore Herzl never took a salary.

And when he died in 1904, he was penniless.

His wife and children had no means of support.  So they appealed to the Zionist leaders.

And they raised three million dollars!

The question was where to invest it?

They considered many possibilities.  Until they finally decided.

On the best.

Four percent, thirty-year bonds of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

The most powerful empire in Europe.

Guaranteed income for the rest of their lives.

Or so it seemed.

Eight years and one world war later?

The Austro-Hungarian Empire is gone.

And the bonds are absolutely worthless.

Okay.  Bad investments happen.  You can’t really blame them.

But what’s most amazing?

No one suggested their own bonds.  Keren Hayesod.  And the Jewish National Fund.

That probably seemed much too risky!

… And neither has missed a payment in over a hundred years!

We have an eternal connection to the Land of Israel.

Backed by the strongest Guarantor.

We’ve just got to believe in ourselves!

 All the best,
