CTN TORAH MINUTE

Posted by rabbi.deutsch on 30 May 2012 / 0 Comment

Hi,

I hope you were able to sleep last night!

What’s the second thing the Joseph teaches us?

… The power of the Torah!

A story like this shocks us.

“ Jews don’t do things like this”!

And its true.

Violent crime is so rare among Jews.

And we’re the People that has suffered the most.

Could almost be excused if we were more violent than others.

But we’re not.

… Is it Jewish genes?

This story tells us no.

We’re by nature a very tough People.

And we still are!

(How’s that for an understatement!)

We wouldn’t have survived all the world threw at us if we weren’t!

And early in our history something like Joseph and his brothers did happen.

So what happened?

Why did the Jews become the least likely to be violent?

Why is the Israeli Defense Force the most humane army in the world?

It’s the power of the Torah!

The Torah and its values molded us.  Refined us.

And made us what we are.

… Here’s a fascinating observation by 19th century French scholar Anatole Beaulieu.

“Consider that fact that no Jewish mother ever killed a chicken with her own hand.

And you will understand why homicide is rarer among Jews than any other group”.

All the best
