Hope you’re having a great day!
… One more thought about circumcision.
Many times in Jewish history, our enemies have tried to outlaw circumcision.
The Greeks (Chanukah story) made it a capital offense.
Circumcision really upset them.
Why?
Part of it was their obsession with physical beauty and perfection.
They admired the “perfect body.”
And saw circumcision as a desecration of the body!
The Jews see things differently.
There is something much greater than a perfect body.
Dedicating the body to a life of meaning and holiness!
And that’s the message of circumcision.
It’s been said, “The Greeks saw holiness in beauty.
But the Jews see beauty in holiness!”
… I once saw someone put it this way.
“To the Greeks, circumcision was like splattering paint all over a Rembrandt!”
To us, circumcision is something much different.
It’s the finishing touch on the Rembrandt!
All the best,
