CTN TORAH MINUTE

Posted by rabbi.deutsch on 15 Sep 2012 / 0 Comment

Hi,

Hope all is well and that your holidays were meaningful.

It’s great to be back!

I haven’t shared a good joke for a while!

… There’s this fellow who really needs a break from work.

But he knows that his boss would never let him take time off.

So he comes up with an idea.

He suspends himself from the ceiling of his office.

His boss passes by and asks, “What in the world is going on here?”

And the guy answers, “What’s the problem…

I’m a light bulb!”

The boss says, “You better go home and take a break for a few days!”

It worked!

And when another guy from the same office also gets up and walks out?

The boss says, “And where are you going?”

His answer?

“Sorry…

But I can’t work in the dark!”

It’s a cute story.

But if a person really thinks he’s a light bulb?

It’s obviously very sad.

Because he’s out of touch with reality.

… The Torah teaches that we can be totally “normal” and still be out of touch with reality.

How?

If we think that the world is here by accident.  That there’s no real meaning to our lives.

Or that we’re so “puny” that G-d couldn’t possibly care about us.  Couldn’t possibly want us to have a relationship with Him.

Or if we forget one of the most fundamental teachings of the Torah.

That each and every human being is created in the Image of G-d.

… Synagogues all over the world just started reading the Torah again.

“In the beginning, G-d created heaven and earth”….

“In His Image G-d made man”…

The Torah makes it very clear at the beginning.

“We’ll get to the details.  About how your lives can be “G-dly”.

But first?

Get real about life!

Know who you are!

Like they say…

The rest is commentary!

All the best,
