Hope you’re having a great day.
… Mazal Tov!
The first shidduch. The first match!
Eve is created.
And who was the Matchmaker?
G-d Himself.
… The story has many lessons.
G-d took Adam’s side and made it into a woman.
But why didn’t G-d just create a man and a woman at the same time.
Why make Eve from Adam?
On a spiritual level, it set the tone for their marriage. And for future marriages.
Part of Adam was separated. And then returned.
Two halves of a whole.
Marriage isn’t about a “relationship.” It’s not even about “love.”
It’s about becoming one. On the deepest level.
“And they shall become one flesh.” (2:24)
… Picture a couple having dinner together.
(Such a thing used to happen!)
The husband takes out the newspaper. Not a good idea.
The wife starts talking about her day.
(It could be in the reverse as well, of course!)
The response?
… Aha. Aha!
A very bad idea.
What would be better?
“It’s important to her. So I’ll put down the paper. And listen.”
That’s progress.
But it’s still not what it should be.
What does “becoming one” mean?
…Because it’s important to her, it’s important to me!
So I’ll put down the paper. And listen.
… I hope you benefit from reading the “A Minute A Day”.
But I know that I benefit from writing it!
I had to run out while writing this message.
My wife needed a ride and I went to pick her up.
As I pulled into the driveway, I was about to honk. Let her know I was there.
… But I didn’t.
I decided to take my message to heart.
…It would be nicer to go in and let her know I was there.
