Hi,
Labor Day has passed.
And for us Jews?
The real work begins!
Getting ready for Rosh Hashanah by working on ourselves.
Trying to improve our relationship with G-d. And with other people.
… A policeman pulls over a motorist.
“Didn’t you see that stop sign”?
“Yes sir. I did see it. The problem is…
I didn’t see you!”
… Picture G-d challenging us.
“Didn’t you see that person who needed your help? Your time. Or your smile.
Because you didn’t stop. You walked right by!
And didn’t you see that person who was hurt by what you said.
Because you didn’t stop. You went right on talking”!
… This is much too serious to be cute and say…
Yes G-d. I did see him. But I didn’t see You!
Although there is truth to that.
Because we do forget that G-d is watching!
But you know what the real answer is?
The answer that’s not cute.
But the one we should actually say to G-d?
(And to ourselves!)
… Here it is.
“Yes G-d. I did see that person. But I didn’t see “You”…
In that person!
I lost sight of the fact that he was created in Your Image.
That You put something G-dly into every human being.
But this year I’m going to work on just that.
On seeing the Divine Image in every human being.
And treating them like the royalty that they are!
So the next person we see?
Let’s make sure we really see them!
All the best,
