Hi,
It’s an old saying.
What does every woman want to hear?
‘I love you”!
Like many old sayings?
There are newer versions these days.
Sometimes improved, sometimes not.
Here’s a newer version.
What does every woman want to hear?
“I’ll clean up”!
… In Jewish tradition, there is a metaphor used to describe us.
The Jewish People are “married” to G-d.
That means that G-d didn’t just give us a lot of rules. “Do this. Don’t do that”.
The Torah is much more than that.
It’s actually G-d’s love letter to the Jewish People.
He tells us that He wants a relationship with us.
… God wants to hear, “I love you”.
We say it in the Shema. The Jewish declaration of faith.
“Love the Lord, your G-d with all your heart…”
It’s a commandment!
And this time of the year? As Rosh Hashanah approaches?
G-d wants to hear something else.
You guessed it!
“I’ll clean up”.
As in?
Cleaning up my act.
G-d wants to hear that we realize that we need to improve our relationship.
That we didn’t give it enough time and effort.
It wasn’t the priority it should have been to us.
Take something like Shabbat.
It’s not just a “day of rest”.
G-d has told us that He would love for us to spend some “quality time” with Him.
But we may have been too busy!
This is a time of the year to think about making Shabbat more special.
… And G-d made a condition in our relationship with Him.
Something that can be a real deal breaker.
He cares about how we treat other people!
Do we respect their dignity and their feelings?
Build them up? Or tear then down?
Do we have time to do a favor? Time to listen?
G-d wants us to improve that part of our lives as well.
… This is the time of the year to say to G-d…
“I Love You.
And I’ll clean up!”
All the best,
