CTN TORAH MINUTE

Posted by rabbi.deutsch on 03 Sep 2012 / 0 Comment

Hi,
Hope all is well.
… Commercial time during the Super Bowl is a bit expensive.
Like $2.5 million for 30 seconds!
Last year one of the major sponsors was Cadillac.
They unveiled a huge campaign.
“Under 5”.
Promoting a new model with the ability to do something unbelievable.
Accelerate from 0-60 in less than five seconds!
The campaign had a specific goal.
To make “under 5” synonymous with Cadillac.
And they announced a contest.
Challenging consumers to create a 5 second video!
“What can you do in 5 seconds”?
They were out to prove that “amazing things can happen in under 5 seconds”!
Cadillac ran six 5 second spots.
(The sound design was handled by a Chicago company, Airstream Audio, a good friend of mine)
It was brilliant. Won top awards for advertising. And brought great results.
Well worth two and a half million dollars!
… I don’t know if they’ll be back this year.
But here’s something to think about.
Cadillac is right.
Amazing things can happen in under 5 seconds!
Here are few things we can do in under 5 seconds.
(Besides reading more than ten percent of a Torah Minute!)
Give someone a big smile. Dial the number of someone going through tough times.
Wave another car on at the intersection even if we were there first.
Here are some of the things we can say in under 5 seconds.
“I’ve been thinking about you. Just wanted to let you know I care. I’m so proud of you.
Please let me do that for you. You look terrific. Your kid did something special”.
….That amazing Cadillac that can go from 0-60 in under 5?
You know where it will be in around 10 years?
In the junk yard!
Maybe a source of parts for a 9 year old Cadillac!
But when we take 5 seconds to lift the spirits of another person?
Which Jewish tradition teaches is emulating G-d?
We earn a piece of eternity!
All the best,
