A couple was traveling together.
And the wife says to her husband, who was driving…
“Did you notice that couple we just passed? How close they were sitting to each other?
That’s how we used to sit”!
The husband’s response?
“I haven’t moved”!
…It’s something to think about right after Thanksgiving.
We might (should?) be thinking, “We felt more connected to G-d last Thursday.
Didn’t take things for granted. We felt thankful for everything.
Maybe we took Rabbi Katz’s advice and said a blessing over a glass of water.
Thanked G-d for the “simple things” in life. And for the “ambiance” we enjoy.
But somehow, that was Thursday…
… I bet you can guess where I’m headed!
I’m pretty sure I know what G-d would say.
“I haven’t moved since Thursday.
I’m still sending you the refreshing glass of water.
Still providing the ambiance”!
… Those of us who say the blessings every day?
Should try to say them with more feeling.
And if not?
Why don’t we try it once a day?
Let’s appreciate the glass of water and remind ourselves of all the ambiance!
And make the blessing. The bracha.
“You are blessed, the Lord our G-d, King of the universe, by Whose word everything came into being”.
(Baruch atoh adonoy, eloheynu melech haolom, shehakol nihyeh bidvoroh)
… And while we’re talking about couples driving together?
I saw this cartoon showing a somber looking couple.
And one says to the other.
“I know exactly what you’re saying when you sit there without saying anything”!
