Hope you’re having a great day!
It’s easy to remember the Jewish date of Abraham’s birth.
1948!
(Around 1800 B.C.E.)
… G-d appears to Abraham and gives him a mission. (Genesis 12:1)
“Leave your birthplace. I’ll make you into a great nation.
You’ll be a source of blessing for the entire world.”
And one more thing.
G-d makes an eternal covenant with Abraham and his descendants.
There will always be a Jewish People.
They’re an eternal nation.
The amazing thing?
G-d pulled it off!
There is no rational explanation for the survival of the Jewish People!
It’s a miracle.
… Why is it part of G-d’s plan that there always be a Jewish People?
Because we have a mission.
To be a “light unto the nations.”
The teachers of humanity.
So as long as humanity exists, there has to be a Jewish People!
… When we’re called the “Chosen People?”
It’s a privilege.
But it’s also a responsibility.
… And here’s a great way to think of it.
Picture a party. With a lot of drinking.
(Unlike a typical Jewish party. With not so much to drink. But lots of food!)
And there’s one fellow sitting off in the corner. Reading a book.
Doesn’t go near the drinks.
Today, we have a name for that person.
“Designated driver.”
He volunteers to stay sober so everyone else gets home safely.
The Jewish People are the designated drivers of humanity!
The Torah makes greater demands of us.
We have to stay “spiritually sober.”
So that humanity learns from us.
All the best,
